Tooth pain along with pain of the soft tissue of the mouth is a very real concern that deserves conversation. Keep in mind that pain is the body’s way of telling you that something is wrong. It lets us know that we need to take action because something is causing the pain that we feel. There are a number of sources of dental pain. For example, a sinus infection can easily cause persistent pain while clenching and grinding teeth can produce pain in the jaw. In addition, tooth decay or tooth trauma that causes a tooth to die will also cause pain.
Bacteria Tends to Grow
Perhaps even more painful is when a live tooth becomes traumatized resulting in inflammation that causes in many cases severe pain. Another concern is that sharp pain typically indicates that a tooth has become traumatized and that acute infection may follow. Yet another thing to consider is that when the pulp of a tooth dies, bacteria tends to grow which will eventually produce extreme pain in the deepest part of the tooth. This often happens due to a cracked tooth or decay that has gone untreated. When a tooth dies one of the first indicators is that there is no sensitivity to cold or hot temperature, only persistent pain.
Grinding of The Teeth
As mentioned earlier, a sinus infection can manifest as tooth pain. This type of pain is most notable in that it is a dull pain that seems to reside in the back upper teeth. This is simply due to the fact that the back upper teeth are close to the lining of the sinuses. Equally of concern is that of clenching and grinding teeth. When clenching and grinding becomes a problem, joints in the jaw can become injured. This ultimately results in chronic pain. Keep in mind that severe clenching or grinding of the teeth will require long-term treatment in order to correct the condition.
