Tooth Extraction is not carried out at the early stages of decay or impaction, because there are certain specific reasons and stages of the tooth impaction and decay in which the only choice you are left with, is tooth extraction like;

Decayed Teeth

Sometimes, the germ residue on the crown, if not cleaned properly, can cause cavities there. This decay is confined to the upper surface only. But in some cases, the germs get into the interior of the teeth and involve the pulp of your teeth. When the nerves and blood vessels get involved, the infection spreads rapidly to the entire teeth. This type of tooth decay is irreversible and cannot be undone through the cleaning process only. If the bone is not involved, you can save your natural teeth by filling or root canal treatment, but if there is damage in the bone, you cannot let this as it is. It should be pulled out through the tooth extraction process.

Impacted Tooth (Wisdom Tooth)

If a tooth cannot come out properly, it gets blocked within the gums. It starts outgrowing in the wrong direction while pulling the surrounding teeth. This is called tooth impaction. Impacted teeth bring many problems; the major among them is pain and swelling, which radiates to the surrounding teeth and jawbone.

Suppose the tooth is slightly tilted towards one side. In that case, a small incision can provide the right direction and start growing normally. But, if it doesn't take the exact direction, it needs to be removed.

Wisdom tooth extraction is the leading example of impacted tooth extraction. The tooth doesn't find enough room for its growth, and it starts growing inward. Sometimes it grows towards the rest of your teeth. This causes severe pain, which sometimes cannot be relieved by pain killers. Most people go for tooth extraction to save the remaining teeth and get rid of the pain.

Gum Diseases

Gum Diseases, like gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) or periodontitis (inflammation of the bone or surrounding tissues) also lead to tooth extraction. The plaque accumulates on the teeth' roots, and it gets inside the gums, causing gum and bone diseases. Dental bridges or crowns preserve these teeth. The previous teeth need to be removed to get the dental bridges.

Trauma

Some accidental injuries break the teeth or get misplaced due to the trauma or sudden pressure and become too damaged to be saved. In this case, it is better to get them removed to protect other teeth.

Final Thoughts

Some people don't go for tooth extraction because of misconceptions or save natural teeth. However, if the damage is irreversible, it can also affect other teeth. So, to preserve your natural teeth, it is better to go for tooth extraction. If you notice severe cavities or impacted teeth, consult your dentist as soon as possible.
